How to connect a telephone socket for ADSL?

The ADSL technology also uses a telephone line in the house. It offers you the possibility to easily access the internet. Before performing the ADSL connection, know that there are two types of ADSL telephone sockets.

Let’s first talk about the connection of the first T model. To start, dismantle the old socket by removing the cover. Before carrying out the new installation, find the place for the new socket. It must be placed 20 cm from the floor surface.

Now fix the box of the new socket against the wall and strip the cable. Then, connect the wires to the old telephone socket. The white-colored wire must be connected to terminal 3 while the gray wire to terminal 1.

For the connection of the RJ45 socket, this operation may seem simple to carry out if the house lacks the T socket.

In the case where it has an RJ45 socket, the connection is made using the two wires on the socket. You indeed need to equip yourself with the adapter called ADAPT which is generally supplied with the ADSL box.

Which wire to connect for ADSL?

If you want, for example, to connect the box to your PC, you can choose between the WiFi or wireless network and the Ethernet cable.

Also known as RJ45 or network cable, the latter is the most efficient option helping you to get the most out of the ADSL connection.

By accessing the computer’s settings menus, you can configure the network socket as the source of your internet connection.

As for the WiFi connection, it activates automatically during the box installation. You can easily find the connection codes directly on the box or on the packaging. This label shows you the name of the WiFi network as well as the password.

How to connect the telephone line?

With some technical knowledge, you can very well carry out the wiring of a telephone socket yourself. Of course, you need to have good tools that facilitate and speed up the tasks.

For connecting a T telephone socket, you must first remove the finishing plate or plastic cover with a screwdriver.

Then unscrew the system to remove the old socket. It should be noted that only the white and gray wires are essential for the telephone line.

That said, you can pass them through the holes then feel free to strip them. Wire one wire on terminal 3 then on terminal 1.

Connecting an RJ45 socket for the telephone line may seem easy. There is no need to undo the wires. You just unclip the RJ45 cover. Also, you use terminals 4 and 5. The two most important wires are white and gray.

To make the connection easier, new landline phones come with an RJ45 socket. Older ones still require an RJ11 adapter.

Which socket for the telephone?

We can distinguish 2 categories of sockets including T models and RJ45. The first is widely used in old housing. However, this model is no longer suitable to meet current needs.

Since the T telephone socket requires a cable with 8 wires, this is no longer the case with today’s sockets. The number of wires may vary depending on the product. If the RJ12 socket has 6 wires, the RJ11 has only 4.

Since 2008, France Télécom has mandated the use of RJ45 sockets in new homes. Even though fiber optic has experienced spectacular growth to enjoy internet, these recent RJ45 telephone sockets are also suitable for an internet connection.

Accordingly, T sockets should no longer be present in new constructions. If your home still uses this installation, it is advisable to replace it with RJ45 during renovation work.

If the house is equipped with a communication box, this simplifies modifying or adding a new wall telephone socket.

Is a telephone socket connection needed for fiber optic?

This question is often asked when a home does not have a fiber optic connection. If it is located in eligible areas, it can still benefit from it even if it does not have a telephone line.

It should be noted that fiber does not necessarily need a telephone socket connection to operate. We are talking here about a thinner glass fiber allowing thousands of information to transit. To enjoy fiber optic, you only need to provide your postal address.
